I just had another disappointing omelet at a place Ive just tried and am loosing hope in my search for a good affordable breakfast place in Vancouver’s West End.

We’ve been going to Teresa’s on Denman for years up until a month or so ago when it closed without warning and we’ve been looking for an alternative ever since. Something with decent food and the same sort of Omelet combo for under $7. It seems this is a tall order. My favorite at Teresa’s was the spinach omelet with toast and fruit for about $7.

Today I tried the veggie omelet at The X Spot on Robson and Denman. The price was right at $7 and even without the fruit (which was something like $3 extra to add it) the price was ok.. but when I tried it I quickly crossed it off my list of places to go. The veggie mix in the omelet included carrots and cabbage among other strange ingredients and made me think the cook had just grabbed a handful of salad topping and thrown it in. Then when I dug deeper I found the center was totally raw, and I’m not talking about the delightful soft center of a well cooked omelet, I’m talking about gelatinous clear egg white goop, gag! The girl who took it away was very nice and I was hoping for the best but when she came back with my food it was the same omelet flattened and dry, and just really bad 🙁 The best part of the meal was the packet of kraft peanut butter that came with the toast.

My overall experience was pretty bad but I have something specific in mind I’m looking for. I’m sure there are a lot of regulars who frequent the casual patio and enjoy their all-day breakfast or any of the other options on it’s vast menu. The front staff are nice and friendly and I was happy to tip them for their cafe style service. Personally I think X may be trying to be too much for too many people, to the point where their food suffers, but I only tried one dish this one time so I can’t really be sure. I may come back for a coffee sometime.

So I’m still searching for a new awesome breakfast place to go to with good affordable eggs/omelets. I hope it won’t be too long. I miss you Teresa’s.
